Kumori Saxophone Quartet presents: Tuning In
Kumori present a concert of contemporary works and new arrangements for saxophone quartet. Seemingly a latecomer to the classical music lineage, saxophonists have made up for lost time by relentless championing of their original repertoire, coupled with imaginative renderings of works by composers of a previous era. To this extent, the Kumori Saxophone Quartet regularly performs standards of the saxophone repertoire, ranging from classical to jazz and beyond, alongside their own arrangements and transcriptions. The title of the concert is taken from British composer Jonathan Dove’s work of the same name, a theatrical work for saxophone quartet where the ensemble, situated in different ends of the hall, gradually makes its way onstage and transforms disparate melodic fragments into a hypnotic wall of sound. Additional works to be featured by celebrated film composer Michael Nyman, as well as American composers Jennifer Higdon and David Maslanka.
